I drew the original in October 2007. It is loaded with ugly.
It's a "movie poster" for the 2003 novel Gregor the Overlander
To this day this debut YA (young adult) fantasy novel, and it's sequels, by Suzanne Collins, are among my favorite novels ever.
I drew the lineart for three characters in this Work in Progress; it took just about fifteen minutes, and already I prefer the more blatantly cartoony style that I wasn't doing four years ago.
The "Gregor" series, known as The Underland Chronicles, are an awesome deconstruction of "down the rabbit hole", talking animals, or "kids go on a big adventure when their parents are away" type of stories. I highly reccomend it to just about anyone, but especially preteenish age kids, and also ones that are already in their teens. Don't dismiss this as a kiddie book in favor of your angsty romances, many people could learn a lot from this 11-year-old boy protagonst.
